Furfuryl alcohol

Furfuryl alcohol is used for the synthesis of various types of organic substances: adhesives, urea-furan and phenol-furan resins, as a solvent for nitrocellulose, in the manufacture of varnishes for anti-corrosion purposes, protective water repellent, corrosion-resistant coatings, as well as to increase the density and impermeability of acid-resistant solutions.

It is used in production of certain types of rocket fuel, synthetic fiber, rubber, toxic chemicals, in foundries, etc.

Furfuryl alcohol production.
It is obtained by catalytic hydrogenation of technical furfuryl in a reactor under high pressure or in a low pressure reactor in a steam-gas medium with subsequent rectification in a 2-column unit, where it is dehydrated and separated from furfuryl impurities.
